The human race is now polluted with hundreds of industrial chemicals - with little or no understanding of the consequences. Babies are born pre-polluted with as many as 300 industrial chemicals in their bodies when they enter the world...
...We are at a tipping point, where the pollution in people is increasingly associated with a range of serious diseases and conditions from childhood cancer to autism, ADHD, learning deficits, infertility and birth defects. Yet even as our knowledge about the links between chemical exposure and human disease grows, the government has almost no authority to protect people from even the most hazardous chemicals on the market. I continue to see in the multiple 'mommy blogs' this feeling that "well, if it weren't safe, than it wouldn't be in our products, right? Wouldn't it be banned in America?" It makes me sad, because we have so much faith in a system that is failing us.
Becoming a parent triggers a wake-up call. We become our children's most vigilant guardians and develop a heightened awareness of danger. Without solid proof and much resistance to the perceptions we hold true, we go with the "better safe, than sorry" approach and wait for the rest of the world to come up to speed.
In my experience, pediatricians, pharmacists, pharmaceutical companies and product manufacturers will tell us that "there are no conclusive studies that give any indication that x is linked to y" - yet, we as parents, know better than to trust chemicals, which have NOT been tested and proven to be safe for infants and children. We should not allow our children or ourselves to serve as guinea pigs.
Even cigarettes were considered safe for decades, before being proven to cause cancer and heart disease. ...something that many already "knew." Most of us remember the vehement denials by the cigarette companies during those investigations... Something that should NOT be forgotten, when assessing the safety of other consumer products (including vaccines and medications).
The great news is that is it never too late to educate and empower yourself and start to take steps to improve the short- and long-term health and well-being of your family.
If you're a new parent with a baby on the way, this is perfect timing.
If your child is older, rest assured that there is always something more you can do to improve your child's health.
I will help you to manage the process without feeling overwhelmed, depressed and helpless. Small changes add up to a big difference and I will be there to support you through every step of the process.
